Upcoming Changes to KMNY

We’re making substantial changes that will impact Zen Planner (our student portal), credit card processing and memberships. These changes are in improvement, but admittedly, also a bit of a hassle. You will be effected.  You should know what they are.

I know your time is valuable so I’ll try to keep it short but there’s a lot, so if now is not a good time, please read this notice carefully later.

First, if I haven’t called you yet to personally thank you for sticking with us, I will. Your support has been awesome, but I won’t kid you, it’s not like everything is fine now that KMNY is open. COVID has had a devastating impact and in all honesty, the light at the end of the tunnel is only visible with binoculars.

If your desire is to continue to support us, please know that we don’t need your tuition payment. What we really need is you.

Everyone who has returned to class - in person, on Zoom, or through Keyless Entry - has pretty much said the same thing. Although they’ve stayed active on their own, training with us is much different, in a good way.The consensus is that KMNY feels great.

Aside from our regularly scheduled kick ass fitness classes, we’ve been able to modify and work safely with partners on heavy bags and focus mitts (striking), bear hugs, garrote, kick defenses, inside and 360 defenses, stick defenses, groundwork, handgun defenses and other Krav Maga material. We’ve turned at least one Zoom hater into a Zoom lover and have even promoted both kids and adults for their next rank.

All that’s missing is you.

Lastly, before I get to the changes, just a quick word on physical distancing and masks and gloves and all the other prickly rules. These are not rules we’ve chosen. They’re rules we have to comply with. They are necessary given the mandates, but please don’t think that we find pleasure in enforcing them.

Now for the changes, and don’t worry, there is nothing you need to do right now. As we implement these changes, we will notify you separately so you can take action.

Zen Planner

We are going to phase out Zen Planner, our member portal, and replace it with Spark, a new member portal. Spark will allow us to consolidate a bunch of internal functions. One of the great features is Push Notifications, and it’s how we intend to communicate with you going forward. Text messages and emails will become rare. Other powerful features include video and curriculum libraries, attendance and scheduling, one touch pro shop purchases, and much more. And the app supports both iPhone and Android devices (finally).

Credit Card Processing

Because Zen Planner will be eliminated, monthly invoices will be processed by Card Point, a different credit card compliant provider regulated by the banking industry. This transition should be seamless to you, but chances are that at some point we will need to ask you for your cc info again. And of course, please check your statements this fall. If anything seems different, please notify us right away.

Our go forward memberships terms will be simplified, or maybe overhauled is a better word. I’m sure that you can understand our need to attract new members. We’ve settled on a series of trials leading to two simple memberships options, Month-to-Month and 12-month.

Until December, these new Month-to-Month and 12-month options offer what we feel is a cost effective, COVID sensitive entry point for newcomers. In some cases, the fees may be lower than what some of you are currently paying, and the memberships may offer better terms, like a free, 30-day hold option and streamlined cancellation.

I don’t think it’s cool to offer newcomers membership options that extend better terms at lower fees than what you may currently have, so between now and December, if it makes sense for you and you want to add one of these memberships to the end of your current term, you can do that.

As I mentioned, there is nothing you need to do right now. As these changes get underway, we’ll notify you separately. If you have questions about any of these changes, please email me at Davide@kmny.us.
